Contemporary architecture add interests to the downtown scene and integrates with the proposed retail to create a cohesive project appearance. Metro Village is an environmentally-sustainable project. To that end, this project is pursuing USGBC LEED-H Platinum certification.

USGBC LEED-H Platinum Certified
Metro Village, a $27,000,000 ROEM community, is an environmentally-sensitive development. The project was constructed using sustainable building methods and incorporates a number of ‘green’ features designed to ensure its long-term energy-efficiency and sustainability. To this end, Metro Village has achieved USGBC LEED-H Platinum certification.
Location and Linkages
Baldwin Park Transit Center Apartments are within walking distance of a wide variety of basic resources such as banks, churches, restaurants and grocery stores. This means less driving and fewer carbon emissions that are damaging to the environment.
Water Saving Landscape: The landscaping is designed to save water: No turf was used, drought-tolerant plants were planted and low flow drip sprinklers were installed. Here in Southern California water is a precious resource we need to conserve so landscaping that uses less water is one way to do this.
Water Saving Bath Fixtures: Water Saving fixtures are in all of the bathrooms. This means that every time you use the toilet, wash your hands or take a shower you are using less water.
Energy and Atmosphere
Solar PV System: There is a Solar PV System that uses the sun and converts that energy to meet the needs of the project’s residents and help offset the use of coal.
Occupancy Sensor/Continuous Operating Fan: Each bathroom also comes equipped with an Energy Star bathroom fan. This fan helps bring in fresh air and will keep the mold away.
High Efficiency Lighting: Lighting fixtures that use less electricity were installed throughout the facility resulting in less energy consumption.
Energy Star Appliances: Energy Star appliances are throughout the facility: Energy Star Refrigerators, Energy Star Dishwashers and Energy Star clothes washer. These appliances are designed to use less electricity, gas and water.
Material and Resources
Many materials that are normally used in construction contain toxic chemicals. The Baldwin Park Transit Center used Low VOC paints and adhesive on all walls, trims and moldings and recycled flooring materials. This means they contain much fewer toxins than most paints. Fewer toxins creates a much cleaner air quality in the units and healthier living.
Indoor Environmental Quality
Carbon Monoxide Monitor: Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is highly toxic to humans and can be hard to detect. At Baldwin Park Transit Center a Carbon Monoxide monitor is installed in every unit.
