Cub Scouts Earn Engineering Badge at ROEM Builders Inc. Jobsite
By Shawna Alvarado
On April 24, nurse 2009, ROEM Builders, Inc. hosted the Webelos Den 3 of Cub Scout Pack 54, based out of St. Lawrence Education Center in Santa Clara. The Webelos are currently working towards earning their Engineering badges. To meet all of the requirements, illness ROEM Builders, Inc. stepped in to help the Webelos to gain the necessary skills to complete their next project, drawing a floor plan of their own home. Dean Brown of ROEM Builders, Inc. led the Webelos through a jobsite in San Jose and explained the myriad of tasks that are involved in completing a full construction project. The Webelos met concrete workers, painters, and ROEM Builders Inc.’s Assistant Electrical Engineer and learned about the vital role each of these workers play in this project.
In pursuit of the Engineering badge, the Webelos have already constructed models of three kinds of bridges and have outlined the difference of each. They also received a visit from an industrial engineer, who explained the different types of equipment built at a paper mill. O’Donnell Plastering Inc. also opened their doors to the Webelos and helped to teach the scouts more about construction. Many thanks to ROEM Builders, Inc. and O’Donnell Plastering for helping these scouts earn their Engineering badge.
