A Grand Success for the Spartan Keyes Neighborhood
On June 13, 2009, ROEM Development Corporation and the City of San Jose's Redevelopment Agency celebrated the opening of an exciting new community asset, a Neighborhood Action Center for the Spartan Keyes Neighborhood at Bella Castello Apartments. ROEM Development Corporation has worked closely over the years with the City of San Jose to develop a strong relationship in the affordable housing sector; a relationship from which the residents and neighborhoods stand to benefit. The successful opening of the Spartan Keyes Neighborhood Action Center is a shining example of the work of this partnership. Among those in attendance at the Grand Opening were San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and San Jose Councilmember Sam Liccardo.
"ROEM Development Corporation strongly believes in not only building quality affordable housing for our residents, but also providing the services they need to ensure the safety and growth of their neighborhoods," says Jonathan Emami, Vice President of ROEM Development Corporation, Bella Castello, an 88-unit affordable, multi-family development with 2,500 square feet of retail, offers many free services to its residents, including access to its homework center, ELS classes, computer learning center, and library.
The Spartan Keyes Neighborhood Action Center is the community’s first neighborhood facility to serve as a place to conduct meetings, educational and recreational programs; to supply information on City of San Jose services and San Jose Redevelopment Agency projects and programs; and to provide office space for Strong Neighborhoods Initiative staff. The center was identified as a top improvement priority in the 2008 Spartan Keyes Neighborhood Improvement Plan Amendment.
