San Jose/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce: The Chamber Advocate
October 2007 - Silicon Valley is fortunate to be home to numerous civic minded and successful development corporations focusing on smart development for both the residents and businesses of the San Jose area. From its active involvement in Chamber activities to its commitment to building high end affordable housing, ROEM Corporation stands out as a shining example of that combination of dedication to the community and smart business planning. From its arrival to San Jose in 1978 to its current four division structure of MIRO Design, ROEM Communities, ROEM Builders and ROEM Corporation, this firm has grown and changed with the times, ensuring its continual success.
For almost thirty years, ROEM Corporation has been focusing on creating entire communities for families in the South Bay Area; building senior living complexes, refurbishing schools and playgrounds, donating time and money to numerous social causes and playing an active role in streamlining the development review process in San Jose. Anyone driving along the streets of San Jose can admire their attention to detail and local flavor in their Ajisai Gardens development in Japantown, Rose Gardens Senior Living and Monte Vista Gardens. However, recently ROEM has been receiving much deserved praise for its newest venture, Corde Terra Village, the first phase of the Fairgrounds Affordable Housing project.
Corde Terra Village is a shining example of what can happen when public and private entities work together for the benefit of the community at large. The collaboration of the County of Santa Clara Housing Authority, the City of San Jose, the California Housing Finance Agency and ROEM Development Corporation provided a structure to ensure success from beginning to end. What started as conflicting visions of what their individual components should be transformed into a productive division of responsibilities with a common goal of creating high quality affordable housing. Corde Terra epitomizes the characteristics of smart housing projects and with its location just a couple miles south of downtown San Jose on a primary arterial street, it is linked to area jobs, services and amenities through direct access to public transportation. Immediately surrounding the property you will find a new health clinic, Franklin Elementary School, a fire station and a neighborhood of single family homes.
Since its completion in June, Corde Terra Village has become home to 300 families, proving dreams can come true…for both those deserving residents and the community.
